Rūdininkai Military Polygon
Designing for Defense. Building for the Future
We at 2L Architects & Engineers, in collaboration with Eika Construction, are proud to be actively contributing to the first stage of development for the Rūdninkai Military Polygon — one of the largest and most strategically important military infrastructure projects in Lithuania’s modern history.
This stage involves the rapid design and construction of key facilities for NATO and Lithuanian forces. Given the project’s scale and urgency, our design process is built on efficiency and precision. To meet demanding timelines, we’ve deployed multiple in-house and subcontractors teams working in parallel, allowing us to develop various parts of the project simultaneously while keeping everything aligned with the overarching vision and master schedule.
A major challenge in this effort is the need to bridge Lithuanian and German military standards, both of which must be precisely met to ensure compliance and interoperability. This requires detailed technical coordination, rigorous review of specifications, and frequent collaboration with stakeholders from both countries. Our teams are engaged in continuous quality checks and responsive adaptation as the project evolves in real time.
Multiple teams at once
The effort is led by our project manager Tomas Tanelevičius, with architectural design by Jolanta Baltrūnaitė, Austėja Marija Pauliukevičiūtė, Vytautas Vaičikonis, Jevgenij Kuzmin, Oskar Servuk, and Gertrūda Trakaitė. The structural engineering team, comprised of Mantas Juknys, Andrėj Šeluchin, Titas Martinionis, and Lina Šlekytė, works closely with other collaborators to maintain the technical integrity of the entire development.
Despite the complexity, the first buildings are already under construction, marking a significant milestone for the project. Our design and engineering teams continue to operate at full capacity — managing, adjusting, and refining in real time to support smooth execution on site.
And what’s next?
As the first phase of the Rūdninkai Military Training Ground moves from design into full-scale construction, our focus begins shifting toward preparing the know-how, standards, and design systems that will power Stage Two of this ambitious defense infrastructure. With experience gained and lessons learned, we’re building more than structures — we’re building a foundation for long-term national resilience.
